I made these for the first time this Christmas, and they quickly became my favourite chocolate chip cookies! They are the kind of recipe that feels special despite being incredibly simple to make, and the results speak for themselves. Since then, this recipe is the one I keep coming back to whenever I want a cookie that feels familiar, comforting, and always good.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup salted butter (softened)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar (packed)
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line three baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  • In a separate bowl, cream together the butter and sugars until smooth and combined.
  • Beat in the egg and vanilla until the mixture looks light and cohesive, about 1 minute.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until a dough forms.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
  • Roll 2 to 3 tablespoons of dough into balls and place them evenly spaced on the prepared baking sheets. Gently press each ball down slightly to form a thick puck shape.
  • Bake for about 10 minutes, removing the cookies when they are just beginning to turn golden around the edges. Its very important not to over-bake your cookies!
  • As soon as the cookies come out of the oven, place a glass or mug over each cookie and gently swirl in a circular motion to create perfectly round edges.
  • Let the cookies cool slightly before serving. Enjoy with tea, a cold glass of milk, and some good company!

Bake, cool, and enjoy. These cookies are meant to be shared, and they never last long. Keep this recipe close and come back to it often!
