Last week a few of us went to a pottery and sip night at Almonak in the North End, hosted by Micaila Abboud, a local artist, marine scientist, and ceramicist. It was the perfect way to spend an evening, catch up with friends, and do something a little outside of our comfort zone together. Tickets were $70 and included one drink, all the materials, and the firing and glazing, which felt completely reasonable for a couple of hours out.
The drinks were also delicious. We ordered espresso martinis, dirty martinis, lemon drops, and a few others, and every single one we tried hit the mark.
None of us really knew what we were doing at first. There was definitely a learning curve trying to mold our inspiration pictures out of clay, but once we eased into it and got the hang of things, it was actually really calming. You just sit there, talk, and work with your hands for a while. No phones, no rushing.
We all ended up making really cute pieces! I made a snack plate, while others created bowls, mugs, coffee cups, and jewelry dishes. I cannot wait to see the finished pieces, and I will update this post with some pictures when I get mine back.
It was simple, easy, and just nice to do something different together. I would absolutely do another one. You can find @micailaabboud on Instagram if you are interested in booking a pottery and sip night for you & your friends.
Cheers!
